Our small town is full of historical, cultural and sporting surprises, both during the summer and the winter.
Take a walk through 1,000 years of church history. Our hiking guide Hermann is the best person to accompany you. He can tell you a tale or two, for instance about the 1000-year-old St. Mary's Pilgrimage chapel, the 13th century parish church with its Renaissance paintings and baroque interior, about St. Peter's fountain and the spruce half-timbered houses. Why not visit Hallenberg’s bake house, where crusty stone oven bread is still regularly baked to this day. Experience our traditions and festivals, such as Easter vigil, pilgrimages, “Schnadegänge” [traditional procession by foresters in border districts to check on how the trees are doing], harvest festival, etc.
Find tranquility and relaxation in the expanses of the countryside: hiking, walking, on a bike or on cross-country skis. A well-signposted network of paths and ski-trails takes you safely to the many wonderful attractions in the area. And you can discover live just how entertaining amateur dramatics can be – at our open-air theatre from the end of May until the end of August.
And there’s more: outdoor and indoor pool, tennis courts, boccia and bowling alleys, mini-golf, natural foot baths, children's playgrounds, covered wagon, coach and sleigh rides.
